Hi I am a new member i own a VW Passat b6 170 2007 saloon. Problem started with the DPF Fault light on then the glow plug light flashing and its in Limp mode. I took the on the motorway to give it a good run because it was in Limp mode would not go above 2800 revs.
A mate had a code reader only one fault code p2002 DPF Filter bank 1.He tried to erase the code but the fault lights still flashing and in Limp mode. Will it regenerate in Limp mode.I took the car to local garage they said they will clean the filter with two part system and
Will remove the fault lights.I picked the car up and the fault lights still flashing they will go out when i give a good run this did not happen both lights still on. can any one help to get the car running as should. How do you remove the fault codes what is used to do this.
Thanks usa I live in Manchester.

Your DPF may be passed its maximum soot level. Only a VCDS check will tell you this. If so, then the DPF itself has to be changed.
DPF chemical cleans are not effective I read. I don't have a TDi so not my experience.

Firstly you need VCDS or someone with VCDS as usually only VW or businesses with a very expensive piece of diagnostic equipment will be able to do what you'll need. The diagnosis from your mates scanner could be misleading and the fault something else. Could easily be failure of one of the temperature sensors which causes limp mode, regeneration interruption and DPF light on as a result. DPF light comes on at 55% soot load. Secondly a 2 part system clean is a chemical wash which may not remove all the ash collected in the DPF although a thorough clean can restore a DPF to a fully operating condition. After the clean you also have to tell the ECU that effectively it has a new(er) DPF by resetting or reducing recorded soot and ash levels and by clearing any related fault codes. If you do not have VCDS you probably won't be able to do this and may not understand the following. VCDS when connected to your car via the appropriate Ross Tech cable has an engine adaptation module where there is a New particulate filter adaptation in the drop down. It will also tell you under the measuring blocks option (various groups 68, 70, 75 etc) how much soot and weight of ash (in grams) it still believes is in the DPF. If you are confident with the outfit that cleaned it then resetting the Carbon Mass Load (ash) to 0 would tell the car that the DPF is now empty (I would seek expert advice as to what level should be set as cleaning results can vary. Zero would be very optimistic). To reset to zero some adaptations in VCDS need a "1" to be entered instead as does the new DPF adaptation.

It is unlikely that you car is doing the regenerations if both the DPF and MIL lights are on or will be able to either passively (driving at a reasonably fast speed for a decent length of time e.g. a motorway at 70mph for at least 20 minutes) or actively (higher revs, moderate speed for at least 20 minutes). You should have the car scanned, the scan results saved or printed and fault codes reset.
