    Hi all

Hoping you can answer me a clutch question but please dont be too techie as I am but a mere girly

OH driving up the road the other day when the clutch *went* ~ he pulled over and found lots of little bits of white plastic in the footwell.

It appears that the bracket that holds the cable (well, we thought cable but Mr Mechanic Man says its hydraulic (sp?)) to the pedal has snapped and we thought it would be a pretty simple job.

Garage are pratting us about time wise but have this morning told us that the part he has bought was £60-odd and it will take a couple of hours to change the cylinder!!

Up to taking the car (which he drove off when we thought he was gonna tow it) all he had done is look it the footwell.

After all that wittering I suppose my question is do you think we are about to be ripped off? We have a 2000 2l sport Bora.

    Thanks all in advance.
    Jo

Hello and welcome. This is a very common problem, you need a new pedal and plastic retainer, and any VW dealer should have these in stock.

Thanks Crasher - any idea how much this should have cost?

    Thanks again

£0.66 for the white plastic clip, £1.81 for the pedal switch operating plastic clip if it broke and £20.46 for the pedal. An hour’s labour, say £50, so £75 tops.
