    Hi There

I bought a 2006 A3 last May and have had a couple of issues since I bought it.

Recently, the steering wheel column sensor light, ABS light and ESP light have illuminated on the dashboard. Also, today a large circular ("Brakes") warning light came on in the main centre trip computer and remained on and flashing until I got home.

I had a diagnostic scan at my local garage today who were using VCDS and had the following fault codes:

    00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (G85)
    000 - -

00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear left (G46)
    003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent

00287 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Right (G44)
    008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Left (G46)
    008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

01739 - Crash Sensor for Front Airbag; Pass. Side (G284)
    011 - Open Circuit - Intermittent
    Fault Status: 00101011
    Fault Priority: 3
    Fault Frequency: 254
    Reset Counter: 111

The Airbag light is something which comes on intermittently, generally under acceleration or deceleration. I have read on a separate thread that this could be due to a loose connection under the passenger seat which needs cleaning - is this something I can do myself and if so how would I go about it?

With regards to the ABS sensors, the rear left speed sensor needs replacing as the reluctant ring has been eroded and the sensor bent. Possibly the rear left bearing could need replacing also. Will this fix the steering column sensor fault light or will this be a separate issue?

Lastly - the large centre red warning ("Brakes") light has only just come on today but the ABS/ESP/Steering Column lights have been on for the best part of a month now so should this all be the same issue?

Is there anything I can do to the rear left wheel sensor myself to clean it out?

Many thanks in advance for your help

The ABS/ESP and Steering wheel column sensor were all fixed by replacing the rear near side wheel bearing and ABS sensor as the bearing had corroded and wrecked the sensor.

As for the intermittent airbag light - how would I go about having a look at this?

This is as you say, usually the Airbag connection under the seat. It can be fiddly to get the plug open under there, so be careful not to break it. Its usually a matter of splitting plug and re-connecting. Check its all fitted tight when done.

    Hi,

I am also facing the same issue now on my Audi A3 Sportback 2.0TDi. I had abs warning light from past one month and today when I go on a speed more than 50mph then I got a large circular ("Brakes") warning light.

Appreciate if you can let me know how much did it costed for you to do the above fix? Any reference in and Birmingham will be helpful.

    Thanks
    Raz

I also have the abs and esp lights lit up on the dash
I have low brake pads on Nr side rear would that contribute to the warning lights????
