    Thank you both for the replies - especially Noscream for the very in-depth response. My rear view mirror mount is significantly chunkier than the one in the photo so that could be a bit tricky to work around, but I am definitely going to order one of these today and see how I get on.

    shame that this £300 camera doesn't 'work out of the box' especially when this is a known issue for a while now
