I am guessing this has been posted before but i couldnt find any specific relation to my car.

    I have a 2005 Passat B6 2.00 TDI Sport

Had the engine management light come on a month ago with the glow plug symbol flashing but only intermediately not every time i drove the car so i went to the garage who done some diagnostics and come back with the following fault codes -

01412 - Glow plug with flame control system Q8 not a plausable signal
19557 - Motor for intake manifold flap (v157) open or short to ground
19559 - Motor for intake manifold fla0 (157 no signal
17057 Cylinder 3 glow plug circuit (Q12) electrical fault
17075 - Fan 1 control circuit short to ground

they advised to replace all glow plugs and intake manifold.

I replaced the intake manifold myself but not the glow plugs, a friend done some diag cleared the faults.

The glow plug symbol never flashes now but the engine management light still comes on and the emissions workshop warning still appears on the dashboard.

Now the diag only shows the short to ground fault on the manifold flap and the fan 1 control circuit.

    Any suggestions?

    The intake manifold...surly not?

    I replaced the intake manifold

    OH NO!

engine management light still comes on

    DOOH!

Yeah. Check the fuse that supplies the manifold flap actuator. There are two possible fuse locations depending on what engine you have but I've marked both on the attached diagram.
If the fuse checks OK, disconnect the plug from the intake flap actuator and measure the voltage on terminal 2 of the harness connector. Make sure you have 12V (ignition switched on).

Hey man thanks for your help.

Checked the fuse and its fine, just checked the voltage on the harness connector and terminal 2 showed a minus figure so what does that mean from here?

I'd say something was wrong with the way you had your meter connected because if the black meter lead was connected to ground, you can't have a negative voltage, ie a voltage lower than ground.

Do you know what your engine code is? I've had a look at a couple of wiring diagrams and it seems that the fuse that supplies voltage to the flap actuator depends on what engine is in the car.
Take a look at Fuse 20 & 23 on the engine bay fusebox too. Fuse locations shown on the diagram I posted.

Its a bkp engine code. Just checked 20 and 23 and 23 has blown so that is probably the problem :-)

Will get a new fuse from motorfactors tomorrow and let you know if there is any further issues.

Thanks for your help as im a total n00b at this!

No your not, but I'm not too sure about the tech in the garage that advised you to replace the manifold.

I didn't just take a guess about that fuse being blown...it supplies the manifold flap & the cooling fans. The codes your garage pulled kinda tell you what the problem is likely to be.

Fuses don't just blow for no reason. So get two -- of the correct value
Don't be surprised if your replacement blows.
Don't be tempted to up the fuse's value "just to see" either. Been out to jobs like those, they're usually a mess afterward.

    Good luck

I had similar issues on my Tiggy 2.0 TDI 170 with the lights coming on (glow plug light flashing and the little 'engine' symbol). I was told various implausible things ranging from DPF to glow plugs. Changed EGR and MAF sensor, seems OK now. But I'm as confused now as I was before. No idea if that helps anyone - hopefully it might.
