Worth her going back to the dealer first, if he's any sort of reputable dealer a cheapish fix like this shouldnt be a problem, especially one week in.

It doesn't look like he is a reputable dealer though. He lied about the service history being by VW. He knew the door switch wasn't working at the time of sale. Rear wiper doesn't work. Guy that had a look at car over says there is no antifreeze in it (although it is green - so presumably just remnant of antifreeze) . To be fair, he may not have known about the dodgy tailgate switch or the faulty indicator circuit, which didn't show up during test drive. TBH I sort of expected a few problems buying from a dealer [an autotrader dealer with no website, reviews, landline number or mention online, no slur to honest dealers intended], and hope that there is nothing more serious. It does drive nice and is like new inside. Wouldn't it be great if Autotrader had a feedback system like Ebay.

Did you / she have any luck with the dodgy door lock and wiper from that dealer?

Short answer is no. He wants her to take it in but trust has broken down. I have spoken to him on the phone - mainly talking crap telling me why the faults are not faults and why VW's stipulation re belt & pump are wrong. One of the main reasons for choosing this car is that ad claimed waterpump and belt done twice and had 66K left. It turns out that belt was done 5 years ago this August and waterpump was not done at the time. There is nothing to show that it has ever been changed. So it needs cambelt and waterpump asap doesn't it? The worry now is funding the £500 or so for work it now needs and re what other problems may surface. If only there was a backspace key in life . . .

He has admitted he doesn't check the cars he sells with a code reader. Surely even for a cowboy that is a basic?

    Hi
i think that if you replace the drivers door lock, you will be sorted. Your symptoms could be done to a duff lock.
Take care when sourcing a replacement from eBay. I have read on the forum about people getting locks from Japan, Germany.etc and fitting the lock only to be locked out which brings it's own problems. If you are confident, go down the route of replacing the micro switch, if not, replace the whole unit, either from VW or a reputable seller on eBay.

    Good luck.

    Marko.

I nearly ordered one from Ebay - think it was from Germany, so thanks for the warning. Is it possible to be locked out so that the key won't even mechanically open the locks?

    Hi.
Can't be 100% sure but it is possible to be locked out with the key being unable to operate the lock.
If it was me, I would buy one from VW as you know what you are getting plus I think there is a parts warranty with it.
