    Hi there.
I'm new to Audis but we have just bought an A4 1.8T auto convertible. It's a beautify can but I think there is something wrong with the auto. Is fine trundling round town but on faster roads we have a problem. If I put my foot down when we are cruising at, say, 40mph the revs will rise from c1800rpm to 5,000 but we get very little acceleration. Overtaking is virtually impossible and accelerating up hill is impossible.

What could be the problem and what might the cost of repair be??

Many thanks in advance. Any suggestions very much appreciated.

In a nut shell do your homework before you buy! they are not called multi-chronic for no reason. I would only buy a manual gearbox, although the tiptronic are ok as are the later multitronic.

As above, front drive auto multitronic, aka, cvt trouble pre 2005
If quattro 4 wheel drive auto, then tip tronic and should be safe, sorry to say it sounds like the multi is playing up and will potentially hurt the pocket, though sometimes an ecu or even a simple fluid change can get you back to the right side

Thanks for that mate. Everything pointing in the direction of CVT failure. Phoned the local Audi dealers and they suggested the same.
Time to reject the car mi thinks. It has an air leak in the cooling system and a dodgy radio too.

Cheers guys. Ill be back when I find another Audi .cert (manual).

Have spoken to the dealer. He wants to have the car back to diagnose the faults and fix for me. My worry is that it might go again in a few months.
