    I have a Passat TDI 130 Sport Estate and need new tyres, the size of the tyres it is currently wearing are 195/55/16's but there seem to be more and cheaper tyre options in 205/55/16. Would these fit on my wheels or would I have to stick with the 195's?

    Cheers
    Paul

    Thanks Fozzie, I've searched a couple of online tyre sites and it looks like my car should be on 205s

    Yes they will be fine.
    Only 1.77 % difference, 3% is max.

    MPH Difference
    30 = 30.53
    40 = 40.71
    50 = 50.89
    60 = 61.06
    70 = 71.24

    Multon, he's not changing the diameter (rolling radius), just the tyre width...

    From 195mm wide, to 205mm wide.

    There shouldn't be any MPH difference.

    I use to think this, but the 2nd set of figures (55 in this case) is a percentage of the tyre width.

    So 195/55 & 205/55 have different tyre diameters. Hope that makes sense. See below:
