Mk5 engine judder when idle

Hi

Hope some may be able to help. My Mk5 golf TDI is starting to judder and shake when idle or at a stand still. Problem is gradually getting worse. Any solutions or ideas much appreciated. Having it hooked up to a VAG COM on Monday to check for codes.

Any problems getting into gear or changing gears? Any change in the feel of the clutch?

Sounds like it could be the bearing in the dual mass flywheel failing. Had the same issue on my old E60 BMW

The DMF can be a source of idle shacking on the BKD engine but it can also be the cam timing being very slightly out. We have seen a number of cars come in with (un-reported) idle shake which has faded or gone when a cam belt has been changed with **** attention to the cam timing. The crank setting is easy to get right but the cams cam be a real pain to get absolutely spot on to the point you can get a pair of VW cam pins in without issue.

Thanks for replying. No issues with gear shift or changing gear. I had DMF and clutch replaced last year. Pretty certain this is something in the engine bay. Car chugs and judders as if it's about to cut out. Revs remain consistent. Was advices it may be an injector. I've been using shell Vpower diesel and the problems has got slightly worse since.

Open up the fuel filter and have a look at the colour of the fuel in there.
