My sons aircons is faulty, the clutch pulley bolt is loose,I know this is a issue on the mk6 golf,my question is has anybody tackled this job and where does the bolt shear off and is it possible to extract the stub out of the shaft to effect a repair.

This happened to my golf. Apparently, when the bolt shears it breaks something inside the compressor or it disintegrates and sends swarf/debris around the system. VW replaced the compressor and the dryer as a repair.

I'm aware there is a deliberate weak spot on the shaft to prevent a lock-up when the internals screw up,but not sure if this is the case or the bolt itself has gone,vw have offered him a goodwill gesture but want him to pay labour,a whopping £600,had a quick look today squeezing a long bar on the bolt but its just turning,so just seeing if anyone else has had any problems.

I got a quote from an independent of about £500 Inc. labour to supply and fit a replacement compressor , but VW only wanted £380 after goodwill, and they have warranted the repair for 2 years. Hope you find a cheap fix.

    Hi,
i had this exact same problem on my 2009 - JTW's old mk6 to be exact...

only fix for it...swapping out the air con pump.

my independent charged me £120 to swap out the pump, evacuate and recharge the system, i just had to supply the air con pump (this was £60 for a low mileage pump off a CFF engined passat off ebay.de)
