Uh oh! Gear selection problems

Over the last week my 3.0tdi quattro has developed gear selection problems.

gears.jpgIt started off as not feeling as 'nice' to change gear, it used to have such a positive motion and click neatly into each gear. The neutral started to get bigger. Now R, 1, 3, 5 are the fine. Neutral goes down to almost where 2 should click in, it's about half a centimeter to notch it in, feels like trying to move a stick in a bag of potatoes down there. 4 not as bad, 6 ok. When in gear the lever can be wiggled in place, but it pulls and drives just fine apart from that.

What is it? Could it be a linkage problem?

Anyone had this? Am worried it will be £££!!!

in neutral, is the gearstick between 3rd and 4th gear ?

Hi niall thx for link. Dont understand your question though, unless do you mean in terms of gearstick position left to right where it rests in neutral then yes its between 3 and 4

yes that's what I meant.

It took me about 3 times to realign, but its so worth it !
