My 56 plate 2.0t Tdi Sport has Autohold, which I use all the time. However it has become rather unreliable. I used to be able to give the brake pedal a single push to be confident that the brakes were on. Just recently however, after pressing once the car sometimes rolls back on a hill, and it's needed another prod to set the brakes. There also seems to be more travel on the brake pedal than there used to be. I asked my garage (specialist independent) to check the auto hold at the last service, but they reported no fault found.

    Anyone had any similar problems?

    Mike

new brake pedal switch required ?

The travelling of the brake pedal may be due to a leak ............................. or your pressing harder than usual in overthinking the problem

Try replacing the brake pedal switch firstly, cheapest option at this stage .................... and your brake fluid level

Brake fluid has aways been replaced at recommended intervals, and was last changed 6 months ago when the car was serviced. I asked the garage to check the auto hold at the time, and they said they could find no fault. They didn't seem to think the brake pedal travel was excessive, though it's definitely more than it used to be.

More info about the brake pedal switch would be appreciated. Is this hydraulically operated, and where is it?

    Thanks

    Mike

Is the auto hold not activated by the EPB motor rather than a hydraulic function? the EPB motors and calipers seem to be unreliable at that age unless previously replaced

the auto hold definitely does not use the EPB. It works in conduction with the ABS controller, and keeps the hydraulic pressure applied after the brake pedal is released when the car is stationary.
