    Hi

We have an Audi A3 and we have had a long standing problem with the dashboard lights/dials going out of control....no speedo and most dials not working and lights flickering all other "main" electrics work Ok this has been going on for about 2 years. The car broke down last week, just lost power and wont re-start. The RAC approved garage have reported after computer tests (which didnt conclude anything solid) when they undo the dash and look at the clocks and move the power cable they can sometimes start the car so they suspect the eprom/clocks. Initially they suggested they could send them away to be repaired which they have done 4 times over the last year and repairs to around £250 for this are mostly successful, so we were looking at their fee (2 hours £120+ Vat and the £250+vat) ...which will make us sweat as we dont have alot of money.

However they now say they cannot find anyone to repair them so we would be looking at taking it away from them and pay £120+vat and go direct to the dealer looking at a certain £800-900.

So my question is does anyone know anyone who may be able to repair them?

Many Many thanks if anyone can help, we are not aiming to be tight but have been hit by rent increases here SW London and all manner of ongoing expenses and £1000 to fix this will be a killer !

    Sam

I have a 2012 catalogue from a company called ACtronics Ltd, from Colchester. They list a repair for an Audi A3 instrument cluster, 1996 to 2003 for £130 +vat (it has probably gone up a bit by now). If you Google them, they now list instrument clusters for newer A3's. I think they will only deal with the trade, but your garage should be able to deal with them.

or send them to bba reman who should be able to repair it for you. 2 hrs to remove the dash and send it off, seems a bit steep, they pop out in a few minutes.

Car is ready at garage to be collected but..... strangely they told me petrol ran out on test drive but I put £4 when the car broke down thinking that was first thing to try..... so they told me have to drive it for quite a while to test it....also battery needed replacing as it was dead at £89? but had no knowlege the battery was a problem....ideally I would like to have researched and bought my own battery.....?

Thanks for all your help with this!
