    Hi

Wondering if anyone knows how to replace the headlight switch (part number: 4F2941531D) on my 05 A6, as I can't tell if the dipped headlights are on in auto mode.

All the videos and article I found on the internet show that you push switch in, turn slightly and remove. Both the new and old switches do not have that option.

I removed the side panel where the fuses are and can't get into that way, so I tried to remove the blower and headlight adjustment section. This will not come out because I can't get it past the wiper arm.

So I am a bit stuck.

Is it a case of using small screwdrivers to prise it out?

    Any help gladly taken.

    Thanks.

    Steven

    Welcome.

if you do a search (top right) on the site you'll find a couple of guides which include removing the switch.

    Well your very close.
To get it past the wiper arm just drop the steering wheel right down.

You can also do it via the side panel.
    Just remove the side cover.
You will see the air duct, there is a small screw inside the actual duct.
Remove the screw and you can pull out the air duct.

    Great. Thanks.

I am now confused, I put the replacement in and it is working the same as the one I thought was broken.

My next question is, when you turn to dipped headlight or auto turns them on, should the dipped light on the switch illuminate green?

    Thanks.

I've never noticed any indicator to indicate that the lights are on. I tend to not rely on Auto and do it myself.

However, if you have the colour DVD Nav there is a night setting for the screen to reduce glare at night - when the auto lights come on the screen background turns to black..

The side light indicator on the switch lights up when lights go on but not the dipped. Seems strange, hence why I thought it was faulty.

This is my first Audi, so can't compare.

    Thanks.

I think it shows a green light if you turn to side lights then pull the switch out to turn on the fogs

Only had mine a week and noticed the same issue - it seems to be the 'sidelight' indicator on the switch which turns green when the dipped headlights come on automatically.
I agree, that the 'night mode' on the satnav is a more obvious indication - maybe I'll just turn them on myself....

But then you'll at some time join the club of numpties that are seen driving without their lights and only switch them on after numerous flashes from other road users!

On My Face lift a6 C6 the switch LEDs are as follows.

In Auto the led is amber, side lights are green and dipped beam is red.
in side or dipped the Auto changes to red, the side lights stay green and the dipped is red.
The fogs don't effect the LED's as they have separate LED's.

I did have an aftermarket switch once that had a amber side light LED this drove me nuts as it reflects in the drivers door mirror.
