audi a6 2.0 tdi limp and strange engine sound

coming home today,as I exited a roundabout I was accelerating in 3rd gear at about 2000 rpm and I felt as if something 'snapped' in the car. I lost all power and with my foot stamped hard to the floor, I was getting no torque at all, but the car was still moving forward.the car has no power,the engine sounds different.there are no fault lights on dash.no leaks from engine...what can it be?

for the last few weeks it made a whistling/whirring noise for a couple of seconds when changing gears

I think you need this checking before starting the motor again. I'm no expert apart from knowing that this type of thing happened when the oil pump went on mine. It would start, tick over and limp along but no oil pressure. Mind you, according to my wife, the dashboard and DIS had lit up like a christmas tree.

My first guess would be that a air hose has blown off..

found the problem - blown intercooler...

You gonna take the job on yourself? I've not done one myself, but I can tell you that getting the front bumper off isn't too bad..don't think there's too much more to come off for access, but I could be very wrong..

also will clean the egr,has been on my mind for a while...
hope the whistling sound I had when changing gears goes.
anyone has a video or a diy on changing the intercooler? I know its like for like change but it would be nice to watch someone who did it to prepare before hand,been looking online cant find a video on this

what I didn't tell anyone so far is that on my way out of the site I work in otley,i scraped the belly of the car against uneven ground(fork lifts and cherry picker I drive a heavy).That pushed the intercooler up breaking the bottom part(see pics).not proud of my driving...found on this site a how to remove front bumper.
the headlight above the intercooler HAS to come off,there is no way to undo the jubilee clip with it on.i will add some pics(not a `how to`)
