Having owned both i think im in a position to comment. Surely driving performance is also measured by driver pleasure not just stats. Treat yourself-drive one

Driving pleasure if very subjective and rather than performance would be classed as drivability IMHO. I’m glad you’re so happy with it though… maybe give yourself a treat and try a BiTDI

I don't doubt for one minute It's stronger in the midrange, however performance is measured using established criteria. My initial statement was that there is no difference in performance, that meant measurable performance, ie quoted figures. And, like it or, the figures quoted are the same. If we compared say, 40-60 mph then I have no doubt the later model would win.
However whilst both contentions are correct, for simplicitys sake the measured performance is the same. That's all.

I think the multi can feel a little lethargic (from memory) at take-off compared to the s-tronic, but maybe it’s because it doesn’t need to change actual gears that it makes up for it elsewhere?

Dunno, I think It's cos the multi always keeps the engine at peak power. How? Again, dunno. Probably witchcraft.

We have an Ultra Avant S-line, got it back in May 2014, had a 177 multi on order, it was cancelled and was delighted when I was told I was getting this for the same price!!

Great car but (and I'm comparing it to my last Sporting estate, a tuned 535d touring) a bit slow. My GTD is way quicker, handles better and I prefer the seats. Anyway performance.... I am looking at either a DTUK tuning box (240bhp and 510nm) or current thinking is a pedal box. I feeling S-tropic only works in Sport. Even Eco mode has a better pickup that std drive.

What MPG or range are people getting?? The wife drives it locally, little motorway and at full up the range said 555miles..

I agree with this because at the same time as the a6 had this a5 which wasn't an ultra(not sure if they do an ultra in a5?) and I swear to god there was a huge difference in the drive and performance
