Audi A6 Ultra

I wanted to create this thread to give a big mention to the Audi A6 Ultra.

There's a few reasons. First of all I'm not a fan of diesel cars I've never owned one and didn't ever intend on owning one...till I met this beast! It's the new Ultra series which Audi have introduced which comes with a double clutch auto gearbox which I can't describe enough how quality and spot on it was especially with a 2.0 Diesel engine.

Now performance wise I was massively impressed.

But there was something about this car that I thought I've not driven an Audi that had that quality solid Audi feel to it that the A4 from 1995 era had. That solid robust quality feel and this car had it. I thought why does this car feel so different to other audis I mean I'm even comparing it to the brand new A5 which I consider a 'designer' car good lucks really good lucks and a great car but it just felt like a car.

I watched a documentary recently on the Audi R8 and I can't remember the name of the factory in Germany where the r8 is built but only one other car is built on this factory and that is the A6!

It has absolutely everything and although I'm still hesitant about Diesel engines I loved this car and would consider it for my next car (although I know when it comes to picking the auto trader up ill end up thinking the rs6 will be more for me)

Has anyone else owned or drove one of these?what did you think of it?

It's not like me to have so much to say about a 'normal' car but this was possibly the best non sports car I have ever driven and just wanted to know is it just me that thinks so highly of it?

Sorry if I come across as a bit of a downer but, all 2.0ltr A6's since last yearI have been designated as "ultra", it's a slight development of the model which upped the power from 177 PS to 190 PS and replaced the multitronic box with the s tronic. Also added the burden of using ad blue to keep emissions in line with euro 6. Performance remains unchanged. The a6 is as you say, a remarkable car whether in 2.0 or 3.0 lt guises.

If you read previous posts you will find most people are delighted with theirs, I know I am.

Oh, forgot to mention, Neckarsulm also produces the A8 and the A4 as well as being the center for tri development.

Not at all like a downer!at th end of the day I have little or no interest in Diesel engines and as you can tell from my post not much from the a6 till I drove this so anything you have to say is from your experience of a6's etc my interests are s3's rs6's etc

The s tropnic gearbox I'm used to from the s3 and expect it from a car of that calibre but to be on a 2.0 diesel I am just stating that I was seriously impressed by it.

So at the same time as you not wanting to sound like a downer I don't want to sound like I'm an a6 expert to be honest I am merely an amateur to it and In that sense was excited that I had actually found not just a Diesel engine I enjoyed but also the build quality of the car etc that went with it!just felt like a seriously luxury car!

When I watched the documentary on neckarsulm they only built the r8 and a6 there at that point as well...well that's what the documentary said!its on YouTube if you want to watch it!

Must be an old doc then. I know you luv yer s3, and quite rightly as it's a great car, but, try driving the A6 bi turbo. That'll seriously impress. Still thanks for the post, it's nice to have the A6 appreciated.

Well, I'd never owned the Ultra but owned the A6 177 Multitronic Black Edition, and what a great car. I'm back in an A4 now, but watching the A6s drive by still fill me with Envy, knowing that I'd owned one previously is even more painful. The A4 black edition is lovely but I miss that extra quality you get with the A6. Whether it's Ultra or not, 2 or 3 ltr, the A6 is a great piece of kit.

Yeah the a4 for me just doesn't cut it which is a huge shame because it has a lot of potential. Don't get me wrong love the rs4 but that's what I found and appreciate about the diesel a6 that Its actually a car I'd consider having and I'm a serious petrol head!

I'll have a look at that bi turbo...sounds interesting!

Also yeh that documentary probably was a little old
