Ok, I've read about it somewhere on the forum, but can't find the thread... On it's first cold morning start (this morning) the A6 seemed reluctant to move off the slight incline of the driveway, in fact it was at 2,000 RPM when it started moving.

As soon as I was going a bit, it was fine. I read somewhere about this potentially meaning a gearbox oil change was required but couldn't be sure... Anyone had this problem or can point me to the appropriate thread?

    Cheers!

    Rob

Have the oil changed but it must be the correct CVT oil, we only use genuine VAG oil. I had one in last week where someone had put normal ATF in and it was doing all sorts of strange things. After a flush and refill, it seemed fine. The oil has to be pumped up into the box from below and the oil level has to be checked whilst monitoring the temperature on a diagnostic system display.

Mine has exactly the same occasional symptom, ....... if that is what it is. My drive is also a gentle downward slope and it is noticable when reversing off.

Didn't change after the Multitronic oil change at 40k (or was it 50k?).

Lots of advice says make sure oil is regularly changed anyway, because it accumulates burnt krap from the clutch which clogs up the valve block. One specialist I spoke to recommends a change every 20k once the car has had its first change. Seems a bit excessive to me.

My advice - phone around before you have the job done. I had a big arguement with the dealer because the price was extortionate, but I then found it at half the cost at the next two nearest dealers. Like a mug, I had just said "do it" when they phoned up while doing the normal service.

Or use a specialist, who will be even cheaper if you can find a good one to trust near where you live.

    Hi Teflon,

Thanks for that. Looks like I'll have to get it done as it's the same this morning (fine after a few mins of running). I was quoted £250-275 by the local VAG garage.

I just discovered an independent VAG specialist in Fleet, so I might get a quote from them.

    Cheers

    Hells bells and little fishes!

I thought the dealers up my way were rip-off merchants, but your local boys ought to be taken away in handcuffs.

I was arguing about the £180-odd charge by my dealer, which was 80 mins of labour and a bucket of over-priced oil. Two others within 45 mins drive were quoting a fixed price about £100 all-in when I started ringing around.

I found an Audi gearbox specialist in Milton Keynes (I think) who quote about £50, but I can't find the web site anymore.

p.s. - same dealer wanted to do almost £400 of front suspension replacements at the same service. There was NOTHING wrong with the vehicle when I took it to an independant, so after 3 more visits and lots of arguing I got the cost of my service back. Best they could say was, "we've got a new technician and he is a bit over-keen". Still had to pay for the multitronic change though. Complained to Audi UK, but they couldn't give a toss.

    Teflon.

Want to hear the really shocking bit? The £250-275 price was Basingstoke Audi who were the cheapest VAG garage I found.... Camberley Audi (Same chain) were typically 30% more expensive on everything they quoted on...
