Hi can anyone help I got an audi a4 b6 avant when I bought the car the child locks was on so turned them off and that same day the rear drivers side door won't open from outside and inside tried everything is this a common fault does anyone know how I can open the door ..???

It is a common issue. I had a later (2005>) 8E A4 in a few months back that was showing an error on the door in our service diagnostics scan and when mentioned to the owner he confirmed it was sticking. We lubricated it heavily with spray grease but a week later he booked it in for a new unit as it was still sticking occasionally. I ordered a new genuine Audi unit from TPS which I fitted, checked and double checked before re-fitting the interior trim and then I shut the completely re-assembled door, then I tried to open it............. Needless to say I was slightly irritated.

This is where the problem starts, opening the door when it is jammed. I tried to get the trim off but I couldn't so I had to remove the B pillar trim and released the door hinge bolts so I could use the slack in the door gap to give me more room which just worked BUT I had to protect the door shut edge paintwork with tape and someone had to hold the leading edge of the door whilst I worked inside. The the trim off I could then get at the unit and I found if I pulled the inner cable to its maximum i, the lock opened. There is no adjustment in the system and the cable seemed fine and another new door lock unit opened with significantly less pull and cured the issue.

The worst part of the job is removing the window frame and then setting it back into position accurately when re-assembling. Audi allow their chaps an hour dead (100 time units) for this job which is laughable, it takes double that.

Cheers I got it booked into a garage he says he got to butcher the door card to get to the lock he has had trouble getting a matching door card because the tight fisted salesman that sold me the car won't pay for a new 1 I don't care as long as door fixed and all is as it should be .I'm not paying a penny for the repairs so I just want job done .
