I have a standard A4 b8 se with the 17" alloys. I am thinking of upgrading to larger wheels and wondered what is the largest I can put on without having to alter the height of the vehicle? Cheers and could you recommend any wheels ;-)

You can go up to 20", but it will look ugly without drop:

    My first Audi

I went to 18" but would be maybe better with 19" like sline originals...
Anyway w/o drop maybe 19" and a bit higher tires for look, to not have to big cap...-many people still recommend 17 and 18 for better ride comfort.

Not to discourage you in any way or shape..but I really wouldn't go above 18". I feel 18" is the best balance between practicality and vanity. I've got 19" on my car at the moment (summer wheels), and can honestly say our roads here are just too bad to really justify it.

    The positives:
    -19" looks good
-You get improved handling compared to 17"

    The negatives:
    -You will use more fuel
-They will add more weight (seriously..pick up a 255/35/19 alloy)
-You WILL kerb them no matter how careful you are (so expect refurb costs)
-Tyres cost a lot more on them
-You will damage the tyre and possibly need a new one when you kerb them
-You will feel every pothole and bump in the road like its been connected with a metal rod to your back

Thanks for your advice. I really want to keep the comfort level so 18" does sound the better choice. Just have to look at what styles are available

Here's mine on the 18" wheels it came with from the factory which are now my winter wheels because they're quicker and easier to clean. It rode a bit high and looked odd to me.

And here it is with my 18" summer wheels and lowered with genuine S-line springs and shocks (-30mm):

I'd agree with the comments above, 18" is the limit for a comfortable ride and reasonable cost. 19" does look better though.

Same dilemma for me, I'm thinking 18 also.
I plan on using some A5 18's as the offset is a little lower so will push them out a little. The 17's are so far inside the arches it's not even funny

Congratulations. Those are the right wheels! Will you keep them that colour or spray them gunmetal dark grey?
