your bulb has blown but you cannot change just the bulb you need the inhibitor switch which is located under the gear lever (dealer item),to replace the switch take the gear lever top off (5/6 mm allen bolt) pull off the cover then take selector cover off, the switch is on the left hand side of the lever fastened by a brass screw undo this screw then remove the switch, replace in the same way but take note of the number of turns of the screw when you take switch off, hope this helps

    Thanks Andy,
Your diagnostics and procedure was spot on. The problem i noticed is the screw seems to be an adjustment screw and even after opening it fully i cant get the whole plastic piece which contains the switch and the bulb. I noticed that at the bottom of the plastic there are 2 tabs on botton left and right. even after twiggling those it doesnt get out. Any suggestions appreciated, thanks

screw the screw the other way ie:screw it so the switch rises on the thread, you will then be able to take the switch off, there is a pin on the side of the selector lever which connects to a clip on the switch body, then you can take electrical connections off, replacement is the opposite, but remember to set the new switch up. set the switch to about halfway on the thread then try to start the car pushing the white plastic pin on top of the selector lever, if it starts reassemble lever mech,if it doesn't screw brass screw i turn clockwise & try again its really just trial & error to set it up
