Something is starting to wind me up.

People with huge LCD or Plasma screens in rooms that are far far too small for them.

    I'll explain.

I see a 42" plasma and the people who have it physically cannot sit any further away than 6 feet (or 2 metres).

Now it might look good on the wall, BUT it will not look good when watching it, absolutely not.

    Here is a little guide:

    • 28" between 2.4m and 3m
    • 32" between 2.4m and 3m
    • 37" between 3m and 3.6m
    • 40" between 3.6m+
    • 42" between 3.6m+
There you have it. We need some sort of revolution or leaflet if a revolution is too much.

Maybe on the back of the leaflet we can have an articles on:

    • Motorways: Keep Left When NOT Overtaking
    • Fog Lights: NOT to be used when it's nice and sunny
    • Supermarkets: You HAVE to have a child to be able to use Parent and Child parking spaces
    • Bodykits: A complete touring car aerodynamic package will NOT make the car quicker. with a short article on Spoilers built from what looks like Mecano

    I guess that's enough of a rant.

    Sorry

    Ha !

As in "Does my bum look big in this?" as women ask.

"Does my telly look to big in this room?"

I'm quite happy with the 42" and dare I say it, I'm less than 3.6m away ! It does dominate the room a bit, which is exactly what I wanted.

Well your not going to get a good 42" for £600 so i'd get a good 32" if I were you.

The whole original point of this thread is spot on, watched DIY SOS last night which was a lovely program, a very heartfelt story. Anyway, despite all this there was what I guess to be a 50" Plasma stuck on the wall in the lounge with the sofa no more than 2m away, ridiculous! Im shortly to buy a Sony KDL-40W2000 40" LCD and will be sitting about 3m from it, pushing it I know by the rules but its a 1080HD tv so you could sit 10cm away from it and still have an issue seeing the pixels! The lesson here is buy a high quality TV, even if it means buying a smaller one than you want to. A rubbish 42" will be far far worse than a top spec 32".

The same goes for computer monitors of course, makes me wonder why people buy enormous monitors & sit 80cm from it and have to move their head to see different parts of the screen! I recently upgraded to a 19" widescreen Hanns G monitor and its the danglies, and I dont have to move my head to see the edges!!

You may think I'm being helpful yet sarcastic, this is only because I feel I need to help you to help yourself in the future

That's what the Pick Up Point is for

and having a 42" plasma at less than 3.6m is just a waste of money.

You are not going to be getting the best picture from that distance.

Also screen quality is everything, sure you can get a LG 50" plasma for £799 but is it really going to be better than a decent 1080p sony, phillips or samsung?

All this talk of 1080i or P for that matter is purely academic if you don't have an HD signal going to the screen. My grip is people who buy these screens and say, "oh, isn't the picture fantastic." Well quite frankly, unless you are using an hd input, the Picture is terrible. CRT screens far out surpass any LCD/Plasma screen. Any LCD/Plasma that is run with a Standard Definition signal really makes me laugh.
Why spend the money on something that LOOKS good, but fails on the very thing it is designed for. Everyone is fooled by the hype, and nowhere in any of the advertising does it state that for a standard definition input, your picture on the screen will be worse, (which it is) than an old and greatly developed CRT. Anyone who thinks their flat screen has better picture quality than a CRT with a Standard Definition signal needs their eyes tested.

Just out of interest how many of you run an HD source to your TV,s.
BTW a proper HD source can only be used with HDMI, DVI, or Component. Scart and composite don't have enough bandwidth to be able to deal with HD.

    Regards

    Chips
