    Good afternoon,

I have an airbag error since I bought my car (2005 Passat B6 1.9 tdi 77kW) Today I finally decided to find the cause of it. Scanned airbag controller with VCDS and came up with one fault:

01738 - Crash Sensor for Front Airbag; Drivers Side (G283)
010 - Open or Short to Plus - MIL ON

I googled that this sensor is somewhere in the front of the car so took of the bumper and found that the yellow crash sensor connector is unplugged and just hanging there. But i'm having trouble finding the sensors themselves. VCDS displays this error for driver side only so the passenger side should be fine, but i can't locate the sensor on the passenger either.

Any help on the location would be appreciated.

Already took off the bumper and the plastic panel together with headlights, so i have a clear view but I still am unable to locate the sensors.

    Thanks.

Go to your local dealer spares department and ask them for the G283. While there get a copy of the ETKA diagram that will show its location.
Googling "Crash Sensor G283" bought up many images, some for New Beetle though

One of my main agents is very helpful like that, even down to giving me the printout when I havn't even ordered anything. You'll have to give them your VIN #

That could be a solution. I'll try to contact them on Monday.

One thing is that as the plug was just hanging there the sensor might be just fine. In one of the forums I came across something called Bentley CD. One of the admins of the forum advised a guy to look for a sensor location for VW Beatle in this Bentley CD. Is it some king of a manual for cars?

    Thanks.

Yes, Bentley Publications has a manual for B6 on CD ROM. But it only has information for LHD B6. And the CD ROM has not been re-compiled to run under any other operating systems later than WinXP. And no Unix-based ones.

If the plug's just hanging there then someone's been there before. The crash sensor must be within the arc of what that plug plugs into. Or it's been removed. Did you buy the car like this?
