  1. Steering wheel alignment

My 1998 passat tracks straight under accelleration and braking but the steering wheel sits a couple of degrees to the left when cruising straight on a flat road.

Am I right in thinking I just need to disconnect the battery, unclip the airbag and then take off and replace the wheel a few splines to the right?

It has the original style 4-spoke wheel which is in good condition considering the age so I am in no hurry to replace it.

    Thanks for any help

I would get the tracking done at a garage they will align the steering wheel to the front wheels.

Try Turning the steering wheel from lock to lock then turn back halfway.

The steering track rods must be equally adjusted to get correct tracking

    assuming no damage.
