    Hi everyone,
my lad has bumped his TDi on the front offside corner and now it's running a little rough, seems to have less power and produces black smoke. The bump doesn't appear to be major, the headlight has gone and the bumper is crunched on the corner. I haven't had time to look at it too closely just yet but from what I've read on here could it be the turbo? Or could something have come disconnected in the bump? Thanks in advance.

Could have maybe damaged the intercooler and/or one the intercooler pipes or just maybe knocked a pipe loose/off as I think they're located around that area that he hit. Black smoke would tend to back this theory up

Thanks for the reply Chris - I had a little look last night and spotted what looks like an oil cooler rad behind the bumper - with one side bent in. I've taken it in to a friendly garage for them to have a look. I'll keep you posted.

Coming off the intercooler is a large bore pipe, approx 60mm dia. There are clips holding this on at either end, that outwardly look the same, but are in fact ended. You may find that one of the clips has broken or dislodged, causing air to be sucked in.

Any VAG dealer will have the clips....my ex girlfriends MK4 TDi had same problem and my local Skoda dealer was very helpful in sourcing the part/problem.
    You know when you've been Fandango'd ....

Thanks for the replies, chaps. On closer inspection it would appear that the intercooler is completely wrecked. I've managed to source another one so I'll see what happens when that's fitted.
