Hi ive got a 2002 52 Audi A4 2.5 TDi Avant. Car broke down and diagnosed with fuel pump fault. I went away and told family to order a recon fuel pump for it. This was done and fitted by a garage. I was told the recon pump would have a virgin ecu so wouldnt need coding. However by the look of things, it looks like the pump has come from another car. I have managed to extract pin from ecu on my car but is there any way of finding out the pin for the pump ecu that is now on the car?

If not would Audi be able to do it for me?

    Thanks.

Audi could do it but if you have the PIN extracted from the ECU you are half way there. The new ECU comes open for a new code so all you need to do is follow the procedure for coding the pump on the Ross Tech website. Second hand pumps are a different story as you need both the code from the donor vehicle and your own PIN as well in that case.

If you have the full version of VCDS you can do it yourself or expect to pay around £50 for AN Other to do it for you. The dealer will charge a fair bit more I would expect.

    Hi,
I was told the pump was reconned but im pretty sure its a cleaned up second hand one so i dont have the pin for the old one. Will Audi be able to extract this. Cost isnt the end of the world now, just want it to go.

I don't think you can extract the PIN from the ECU on the pump though I am not 100 % sure of this. As far as I know you need the donor car complete with key and extract the PIN from the engine ECU from it. If your pump has a new ECU fitted , which is normal if it is reconditioned, then all you need to do is match it to the car using the Ross Tech procedure as it comes open and ready to receive a new code. You would need to establish for sure if there is a new ECU fitted from whoever supplied it if at all possible. There is a way of deleting the immobiliser although I have never done it. It means security is seriously compromised and although the car will start and run the immobiliser light flashes continually if my memory serves me right. If you could get in touch with Adamss24 on this forum he will be able to offer advice as he knows everything that is worth knowing about these engines.

Thanks very much for the advice but it looks like its a second hand pump so could be really struggling.

    Check out http://www.dieselbob.co.uk/index.aspx

I've followed a number of these threads and Diesel Bob has a good reputation. It does say on his website that he needs original pump to overhaul, rebuild and test otherwise you're looking at a replacement pump.

Thank you for that information. The guy who is selling the car has another pump that he paid £100.00 in working order and then paid £80.00 to have the code wiped. He was told it would work with any ECU lol. It didn't and he then spent a load on trying to get it to run. He just sold the car for £575.00 £5.00 more than I offered he. Thanks Paul

Immobiliser is in the fuel pump so if its later than around 2002- its a waste of time in my opinion.
