    Hi,

We have just bought a 2000 V Reg 1.6 Golf SE. It has the 8 valve engine. It has 70k on the clock and was last serviced at 58k but no sign that the cambelt has been changed so i think it needs a major service + cambelt. I have telephoned the Lion Garage in Leicester and they have quoted:-

    Main Service £230
    Cambelt £200

I assume that these prices include VAT. I have also been told that the water pump should be changed at the same time as the cambelt so that would be extra. All in i would think about £550 incl the £45 they quoted me for an MOT.

However, i have also found this garage on the web, based in Coventry:-

    http://www.justvwaudi.co.uk/index.htm

They only charge £115 + VAT for the main service. Can anyone tell me why they vary so much and does anyone have any experience of these 2 garages?

    Thanks for any help.

sorry i can't help you however i have the same car (almost. V reg 1.6 S) with 54,000 miles, I'd like to get mine serviced too and am wondering how much i should expect to pay.

    I believe it needs:
