Hi,

Picked up a 1999 1.8 TQS saloon on Christmas Eve as a project to tinker with. It has 125,000 miles on it and has a few issues.

The biggest thing that is spoiling the driving experience is when the turbo is nearing full boost the car will shudder/surge/hesitate then recover.
It feels like my old B6 3.0 quattro did when two of the coils gave up However, I've used VAG COM and there are no codes, ( other than the G62 CTS one which I've ordered a new CTS for )

I had a quick look under the bonnet and noticed that the vacuum hoses are the original braided ones and in poor condition. the one that comes fron the inlet manifold around the front of the engine is breaking up.
Before I go spending money on new N75 / diverter valves etc I've ordered a few metres of silicon vacuum hose in the hope that at full boost the vacuum hoses may be collapsing and causing the problem.

Any thoughts on where else I should look?

Not expecting the answer to be given to me on a plate I'm just thinking out loud on here

Right, in the meantime it's Boxing Day so back to drinking wine and eating sweets!
