My 2012 A6 has BOSE, and is running MMI software 770 (it ws like that when I got it).

From looking at the internet, everyone seems to report their coding as: 030000 - whereas mine is 010000. Any ideas what difference this makes?

    Code:
Address 47: Sound System (J525) Labels: None
       Part No SW: 4G0 035 223 C HW: 4G0 035 223 A
       Component: BOSE-G3-C7 H07 0160
       Revision: CJ007000 Serial number: 00000000023294
       Coding: 010000
       Shop #: WSC 40404 001 1048576
       VCID: 1D31240404102FC964D-8048

    No fault code found.

    Takes into consideration leather/cloth, diesel/petrol/hybrid, auto/manual, saloon/avant, a6/a7 believe it or not.

Until Rosstech release a label file you'll not see which bytes do what.

In the meantime if you have genuine VCDS you can send RT a controller map which will help them develop the label file - Control Module Maps - Ross-Tech Wiki

Thanks Chris, I had seen some references to leather/cloth elsewhere. Yes, I have genuine VCDS.

Should it be OK to change this, or am I likely to trigger component protection?

Change what? The control module is mated to your car, even if you remove and plug it back in it'll still work. CP only kicks in if you've installed a replacement module.

Is the coding from factory? and is there any problems with the sound (speakers not working) If so I would not bother to change it + if it goes in for any warranty work the coding will just be revered back.
