I now need to look for a replacement vehicle for my 2001 B5.5 estate 200k mls. AZM engine manual g/box
With old age creeping in, an auto would be ideal, but have frequently read on the forum and heard (from sales rep users) that the DSG boxes are consumable items in Passats even when serviced by genuine VW dealers.
The 1.4 Golf estate mk.7 is about the same size as my B5.5 but with slightly more horse power so looks like a good replacement with DSG, but as I run a car into the ground, will I be looking at 2 or 3 replacement gearboxes at £?000 each over 15 years or have they designed it differently for the Golf?

    Thanks

I think you may have more than a bit of bother fitting a Golf box to your Passat!!!!! What sort of research have you been doing?
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

As I said at the start of the post :- ' I now need to look for a replacement vehicle'

Suitable research has been carried out for load , towing capacity, performance , and dimensional suitability.
I really need to know if the DSG fitted to the Mk 7 1.4 golf is bulletproof (unlike the passat ones)- the vwaudi forum is normally a good platform to collate information from professionals in the know .
Can anybody come up with this info please?

Ha, Ha, Ha! that's what too much whisky does to me. Misread your post thinking you were planning fitting a Golf box to your Passat!
So to answer your question.................no idea!
    Happy New Year.

my advice, spend some money on your b5.5. if it really only has 200k on it then it must be a good one.
