Extended warranty - is it worth it?

I'm expecting delivery of my new A6 shortly and was thinking about hanging onto it after the 3-year lease expires. I see that a 4-year warranty is £560 and a 5-year one £1335 to basically keep the same level of cover as the original warranty. Apparently you have to sort this out before the car is registered so it cannot be done retrospectively. I'll be doing around 15K-20K miles p..a. and would like advice whether I should pay for this upfront or get a used vehicle warranty after the original one expires?

Here in Germany, by law all car manufacturers must give a min of 2 years warranty. I keep my car for 3 years so I took the extended warranty package for piece of mind. These cars are highly complex and eventually things will start to go wrong and the cost to fix will most likely be prohibitive so I would say yes, take out the extended warranty!

Ditto, but I did manage to get it added retrospectively (with a lot of toing-and-froing) as the dealer registered it a couple of days before I took delivery. My older C6 allroad has a 3rd party warranty which I have called upon and which is also transferrable, BUT I elected for a high excess to keep the cost relatively low. Plus I'm a sucker for forum scare stories...

I took it. The money is worth it for peace of mind. Think of it like an insurance policy, rather than a business proposition.

I have a particularly complex fit, with ACC, HUD, DAB and much more beside. Any one of these items is going to cost £1500 to repair or replace, and one of them, or something else, is quite likely to fail in the first five years. The scheme also includes all services.

Well worth the premium.

I shall probably extend beyond 5 years when the time comes.

For what it is worth on my C6 I took 3 years extended warranty from the dealership when the vehicle was approaching 3 years old. They had a plan that was built to be equivalent to Audi's own extended warranty and it was significantly cheaper. I think I paid about £1100 for 3 years...

I've had it for 3 years on my C6. Not taking it this year as they don't cover over 100k.

I tend not to be a worrier so I did not bother with extended waranty. My Audi experience is very good and I am confident that nothing will go wrong in the frst 100k miles. I have coverred 70k trouble free miles, or 14k miles outside waranty and nothing wrong yet. The next 30k miles and 18 months will determine whether I have saved £1335. Timothy Nathan, are you sure the price includes all the services?

Hi Guys, many thanks for your advice. As the extended warranty price is the same irrespective of accessory and pack spec, and because I'm getting quite a few toys added then I reckon the 5-year extension seems worth a punt. As Timothy says, if any one of these gizmos goes wrong it will probably cost the same as the warranty to replace.

I didn't see anything about service being included though?
