Some thoughts after having done this service myself.
Not being keen to crawl around removing the undershield to get at the drain plug a Pela 650 oil extractor was purchased. A metre or two of 4mm x 6mm clear plastic tubing was needed ( £2.55 free p.p. on Ebay)to go down the dipstick tube and connect to the Pela pump. A few strokes of the pump handle and fifteen minutes later 4 litres of the used oil were out.
The oil filter cartridge was next and on the tsi this is mounted in a very accessible position at the front of the engine. The main dealer had serviced this 15000 mile 2 year old car before delivery and must have employed a gorilla to tighten the filter instead of a torque wrench set to 20Nm. It would not move with a strap wrench up to the point that the canister was beginning to buckle. Then had to order VW tool 3417, fitted it to a half-inch socket bar, and to a sigh of relief it shifted. The new filter's seal was oiled and it was fitted to the correct torque.
4 litres of Castrol Edge 5W30 and job done.
Cabin pollen filter and engine air filter changing was straightforward. Brakes were inspected when new tyres were fitted.
There are some good YouTube videos posted covering most of these steps.

These oil extractors aren't worth it, you get underneath and use the drain plug.

No one uses a torque wrench on an oil filter you just oil the mating seal and tighten hand tight.

Very useful when like me you are 78 years old. VW specify the torque for the filter in the dealer service manual.

I've been using a Pela for ages and it sucks up virtually all the oil in the sump. At first I was a bit sceptical, so I sucked up the oil first, then dropped the sump plug. This yielded only a few extra drops of oil. IMHO, unless you have a ramp or a pit, I'd much rather use a Pela as it cuts the time needed for an oil change considerably, plus you leave the plug in place and don't have to be concerned about accidentally stripping the alloy sump's thread.

Just used the Pela oil extraction pump again on the Golf 1.4 tsi caxa engine. A 30 minute job from start to finish. Loosening the filter cartridge a turn or two and waiting for the oil to flow back into the block is worthwhile and it is essential to use a cloth beneath it to stop any drips onto the poly belt. Have used this pump on three other family cars with success. I have no connection with the manufacturer or suppliers.

All VW main dealers use the used oil collection and extraction tool, VAG 1782. Oil comes out via the dipstick tube.
