    Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster here - am the proud owner of a 2005 B6 Passat Estate, and found the dreaded oil warning light coming on the other day - was 100m from my house so coasted onto the drive and shut it down. So far so good.

Have done some digging, and the only fault code is an intermittent low boost pressure on turbo - suspect this is going to turn out to be a hose or a sticky vane actuator. Will worry about this one later once I've fixed the oil pressure, could it also be a symptom?

Starting the engine, the oil pressure light stays off at idle and stays off until about 1800RPM when it comes on. You can only clear this by shutting down and re-inserting key. I have obviously not done this repeatedly...

    Details of Car -

    Engine: BKP055309
    Chassis: WVWZZZ3CZ6E109816

This is, as far as I know, on the right side of the balance shaft issue and will have a gear driven oil pump. I'm reticent to drop the sump just yet.

I'm thinking - is it worth flushing the engine and having a look to see if it's just been sludged up? then new filters/oil and hope for the best? or do we drop the sump & replace the hex drive as a precaution whilst we're at it.

Not an expert - enthusiastic amateur, and i think if it gets to taking bottom end of the engine off, I'll be getting a garage involved... can find a balance shaft assembly for £200 if I need to replace my one, but I'm worried I'll **** up the timing if I do it myself.

    Any input much appreciated!
