A rattle started a few weeks in my car and it's driving me crazy. Seems to be coming from the top of the dash. Only starts above 30mph and only when the ventilation is on. I've changed the direction to footwell only and it's still there. Also changed the fan to higher setting for some time but when I switch it back to 2 or 3 I can hear it again. Anyone had a similar experience? How can I remove the cover in the middle/top of the dash - the one with a speaker grille and vent in it?

    Thanks

I had a rattle in my car too and took it to Audi. They found 3 sources! The one that is likely similar to yours was the window fan in the middle but I had another two which will only afect you if you have B&O. One was the B&O Tweeter on the door next to the wing mirror and the other was the B&O grille on the corner of the dash.

I don't have the B&O so I guess it's the window fan. Do you know if it's easy to replace/repair?

    Thanks

I don't know how easy it is for you or I but it took them less than an hour to do so it must be easy enough if you know what you are doing removing parts from the dash...

To get the dash speaker grille off, use a wide Bojo Tool (other flexible plastic prying tools are available!). Gently get it in under the rear corner of the grille and carefully popping it out along the back edge. Once the entire back edge is relased, carefully pry the sides up. You should then be able to remove the grille by pulling it upwards and toward you.

Check out this video (recommend you take it a bit slower than this dude however!): Audi A4/S4 B8 Dash Speaker Trim Removal with Bojo Tool Tip 21 Car Detailing - YouTube

Thanks. Managed to find this picture as well. Anyone know how easy it would be to repair/replace the fan? Or even where it is?
