I am currently looking into the feasibility of a service, maintenance and tyre package for my new a6. I have been quoted £50 a month for a 36 month 39k package. This will work out at £1800 over the full term. My a6 will be a 2.0tdi manual ultra avant BE, so will be on 20" tyres. I'm being told the car will be placed on a variable service schedule, so I will get two services out of it. I guess the views I'm looking are, does the package seem good value? Tyre wear on anyone with a similar car spec? Should I ask for my car to be placed on a fixed service schedule? I look forward to hearing your views and thank you all in advance.

I did some similar maths when I was working out whether to take out a Finance package for the minimum period and then cancel it, as that included 2 free services.

I worked out two services to be worth £850

If you get through a set of fronts every 20k miles, that could be another £800

And if you get through a set of rears that could be another £400

So you could get £2,050 of value from your £1800 package

But I don't know how picky they are on tyre replacements - if they only let you have one set of fronts and one set of rears in the 3 years, you are worse off.

How long your tyres last depends on how you drive - 20k is do-able if you drive mostly on motorways.

And it may cover other stuff - if it includes brake pads etc that is also swinging the maths in your favour.

Thanks for your views. My driving is mostly urban and rural with one motorway drive a month. I'm led to believe that audi will allow changes of tyres at between 2-3mm from other threads. I'm partly thinking that I would get through two front sets and a rear set in that mileage but wondering what others with similar engine etc were getting from their tyres. The cover also includes brakes etc but whether they would need touched in the 3 year or 39k period is questionable.

I have that, although only an sline, so different tyres. At the time I worked in Milton Keynes, so lots of roundabouts and braking, and destroyed the fronts very quickly, can't remember exactly, but less than 10,000 miles. No quibbles with replacing them, went to the garage, and the factory fit Conti's were replaced with Michelin, so that's £400 saved already.

I was banking on at least another set for the front, possibly rears as well, the servicing and a set of front pads, but I'm now working in South Korea, so the car isn't getting much use, unless the wife drives it.

I am also paying about £50 a month and on variable servicing.

Same for me, i reckon 2 pairs of fronts and a pair of rears, plus 3 services, air con service, wipers and brake fluid...all for £1800 in the 3 years, for me its a no brainer and I went for it.

I ended up going for the maintenance pack only, as I reckon the tyres could be sourced a lot cheaper than the cost they added to the whole deal, in my opinion the maintenance package is definitely worth it.

yes I would tend to agree with what you're saying and I have requested a separate service and maintenance quote to see the difference in price per month. My only concern is tyre wear. There are differing reports of tyres lasting 9,000 miles and others claiming 20,000 miles before a need to change tyres. I suppose now I'm really looking to see what other peoples experiences of tyre wear in the car is.

Tyre wear is as individual as mpg. It is all dependant on how you drive and where you drive. Yours might last 9000 miles because it's all
urban and country road driving, stop start and tight corners. The same tyres might last 25,000 miles for me because it's nearly all on the motorway.

My rear wheel drive xf was reputed to get through rear tyres v quickly, people reporting 10,000 miles as normal. I did 28,000 miles on mine. I don't hang around on country roads, but on the motorway there isn't much I can do to wear them down.

You're probably right, just 9,000 miles seemed about excessive to me. The tyres I have on my a4 avant quattro diesel have seen 9000 miles and are down to 4mm at the front. So should have been able to get about 15000 out of them, I'm looking I see if people have been surprised by excessive tyre wear or whether the size and weight of the a6 has made a big difference to their wear rate.

Shouldn't make a massive difference. I've done 10,000 miles since getting my car in July and the tyres still look like new. As I said before, in my xf they lasted 28,000 and that was heavier and all the power, which wasn't much different, went through the rear only.
