Hi everyone, I'm thinking about getting an Audi a4 1.8 tfsi. Was just wondering what sort of mpg I'll be expected to get?

    Regards graham

Welcome. Is it a 120 or 170bhp engine? I had a 2012 170bhp for a year and averaged 41 mpg. Mixture of urban and rural driving with the odd motorway run once a month. Covered about 13000 miles in it. It was a nice smooth car but drank oil. Worth googling because oil consumption seems like a common problem with them.

It's the 120hp what causes them to drink oil? And that doesn't seem too bad for urban and rural driving to be honest

Really don't know what causes the problem but worth reading up on. I haven't driven the 120bhp but you might find yourself wanting more power given the size of the car? Suppose it depends how many people you will be carting about and what you will be using the car for. If I recall correctly the 170bhp performs better in terms of mpg.
Current - March 2015 Audi A6 avant 2.0tdi 190bhp manual Black edition in Daytona Grey with pan roof, matrix led lights, lighting pack and heated seats.

Hmmm, there would only be me in the car most of the time, I can only insure the 120hp due to my age although a decent remap should help

    The 1.8T came in a 120bhp and a 160bhp originally.

Ive a 58 plate 1.8 160 and i love it. With a stage 1 OEM APR remap you'll be able to safely achieve around 200 bhp easily without any issues and with no upgrades needed.

I'm sitting at 215bhp and the car drives fantastic.

Lots of complaints about the petrol B8s guzzling oil but mine has been fine as has a mates.

I was like you originally, couldn't insure the 2.0T quattro i had my eye on so settled for the 1.8T and love it.

I very rarely do any motorway driving and do constant city. Avg around 30mpg, if i drive like a grandad can achieve 34+

Oooo 30mpg doesn't sound too bad from a car with 200bhp... What were you achieving when it was stock?

    Pretty much the same.

I stay around 15 minutes away from my work.

Late in the mornings i get 25. On the way home when im not in a massive rush i get 30ish. Obviously if im booting it and using the power itll be inbetween.

When on the dyno my car was running 177 stock (Vpower fuel).

Makes more sense to buy the 120 and get it remapped, cheaper option when you are essentially getting the same, ;less tuned engine.

    Do it!!
