    Hi All,

Hoping for some guidance as a have an expensive dilemma.

I have a 2004 A4 2.5 v6 TDI - 135K - which I brought from my father fairly recently in the knowledge that a cambelt change was overdue.

after a couple of weeks I was driving on a private airstrip at about 85mph for 20 minutes or more - I then put my foot down to avoid a possible issue and there was no response - the engine simply backed off for 10 seconds or so and down to about 70 mph before responding to the throttle again.

This has happened maybe 2 or 3 times since - although it seems to be OK if I drive below 80 on said airstrip.

After reading quite a few threads I thought perhaps it may be the pump timing so I booked it into my local Audi Indy for the following work:

    Cambelt
    Water Pump
    Thermostat
    Aux Belt

(Oh also, they'd popped it on their diagnostic but the engine wouldnt communicate)

A then drove to Devon and back for a weekend from Stafford and on both trips after about an hour the engine light came on (no other symptoms though) so I booked it into a local Audi dealer and it showed the following:

    00575 - Intake Manifold Pressure
    Value above upper control limit
    Sporadic fault

The Service Mgr at Audi then stated that there was a bulletin for this age/model that stated that over time , the manifold can start to corrode and swarf gets into the turbo - he confirmed that it's over boosting as the technician had taken it for a run with the laptop plugged in (Test plan shows turbo overboosting). Linkage operation was OK so suspect corrosion on manifolds leaving debris in turbocharger unit.

The solution being £2500 replacement of the Manifold and Turbo.

The decision that I now need to make is whether to continue with the £860 worth of work that I have it booked in for as it may not actually fix another problem that would make the car uneconomical to repair.

I'm not that technical but I'm happy to give something a go if there could be a simpler cause/solution.

    Thoughts welcomed!

    Cheers,

    Ben

Excellent back story, if only every help request was as detailed.

Best thing to do is check a few threads (search for AKE 00575) and work through the easier things yourself - don't pay anyone anything yet!

A6 2.5 TDI 00575 Inlet manifold pressure exceeded

2.5 AKE loss of power - 00575 Intake Manifold Pressure Control Limit Not Reached - Intermittent[

    Question Trouble code 00575

Sticky turbo vanes would be my guess if the Audi garage has done what they've told you they've done

Thanks for the response, I'll have a look through the 00575 links and see what I can tackle.

do you think it's still worth getting the aforementioned work done as planned?

    Regards,

    Ben

If you'd rather DIY, learn a bit on the way and you have time to do so, no, it's not worth it at all.

Up to you how you spend your money though

I'll certainly have a go at checking the actuator and the N75 - possibly even taking the cover off the turbo to see if the vanes are choked up with carbon. I'm not able to tackle cambelts though so the cambelt/water pump (plus aux belt & thermosat as advised by Adams - (Chris I think) on a lengthy thread I read) so I'll need that doing by the local Indy.

My fear was that I spend the best part of £900 getting that done only t find that the 00575 issue turns out to be death of the car a week later!

I think we were all too focused on the fault code to spot the cambelt part of your post, sorry!

£900 isn't a bad price for the belt change, I remember people getting similar quotes 7/8 years ago.

To address your question, sadly no, it won't fix the issue indicated by the fault code.

I used a local and very reliable guy to do my Cambelt, Water Pump and Thermostat, £525 using genuine Audi Parts. IMHO £900 is too big a pill to swallow. Having now had my Allroad front end in the service position, I will do the next cambelts myself if I still have the car by then.

OK, it's been a while but here's the update (or rather, lack of)
i got the cambelt, water pump etc done in the summer for £700 at the local Indy. I've done about 8
k since and still have the issue with power loss but I generally find it manageabl. About 2 miles from my house is a long stretch of uphill dual carriageway that I drive up en route to work........this is where it happens when I put my foot down and put some load on the engine.
ive tried a couple of bottles of turbo cleaner in the fuel (can't remember the name of it now, black bottle mail order) which may of helped a bit.
so, I've just picked up an N75 valve from Audi (£39) .....problem is I'm not sure if it's the right part or I'm looking in the wrong place?

the part I have is 1jo 906 283 A. It has two small pipe connectors at one end, a 2 pin electrical connector facing the same way and a grey plastic cap (round) at the other end which covers a small brass coloured inlet surrounded by sponge ring.

b.ggered if I can see where it fits , I'd thought it was the valve at the back of the engine bay on the left (as you look from the front) but that is a bigger part with 3 pipe connectors!

appreciate that this is probably child's play but can anyone advise if it's wrong part, right place or right part, wrong place?

    Cheers,

    Ben
