Well i say fair play to them...like you said in an earlier post, they could of just wriggled their way out of it.

And as for getting a new engine from them, ever heard the saying "never bite the hand that feeds you...."

lol "never bite the hand that feeds you" its the hand that wrecked you car full stop! i dout many people would use them again after that ,but at least you won this battle but the war isn't over yet ,if that was there workmanship then, whats it going to be like when they attempt to rebuild it? if vw said you needed a new engine then thats what you should get, in my opinion anyway

Just to update you all, I have some good news. The garage who serviced the car last have held their hands up to their work not being quality controlled correctly in this case, they have apologised and are going to recover the car, and do the full rebuild. They will also foot the bill incurred by VW for diagnosing the problem.

Not everyday you come across service like that.

Wow! Hats off to the garage. Still seems odd that they would hold their hands up to a bad job... I mean it's great, but you don't expect it do you?! I reckon you can't say fairer than that but you would want some sort of warranty on the rebuilt engine... even if it's just a couple of hundred miles? Just to make sure nothing else falls off, really...

The garage has presumably had some issues lately that it is willing to hold its hands up.

Thats good news mate, glad it all worked out. It is rare to find a garage that will admit to getting it wrong.
