I have had the car about 5 months now and it has been great, I tend to check the oil level once every week or so, Its always been reporting about 4/5 towards Max and as such never had to top it up

It was reporting that it was sitting at the max line a few days ago which i thought was strange, I had the bonnet open at the weekend topping up washers etc ready for the good old scottish winter kicking in and checked the oil again today I was getting the message regarding waiting 2 minutes etc with the engine off. This never appeared to be the case before and could see the oil level at any time (aware that unless sitting stationary and flat its not much of a reading) assume this is related to the bonnet being open etc. I have since run over the process to get the reading back up and its still reporting as at Max.

So the question is, is this to be believed or do I have a faulty sensor? surely if its been sitting around 3/4 - 4/5 mark for 5 months with no movement its not just going to jump to full? Any tips greatly appreciated (or should I go to the dealer and see about the OEM dip stick for it).

My experience of the MMI version is .....,it's gash! If I've got low oil levels then I could do without running it for 3 mins for the mmi to tell me! My car is in for a service on sat and will be asking for a dipstick to sort things.

Part number 059115611AB. looks like after an early chassis no. they stopped with the dipstick and just put a locking cap on.

    Retail is £7.70 + vat

Cheers Jethro. I ordered one up from the dealership on Tuesday and it arrived yesterday. The guy from parts said he didnt think it was the right part but come up and have a look and that they didnt make a dipstick for it. When i went up one of the older members of staff came out and we talked it over and looked at the diagram above and agreed it was. Used it and checked the oil levels last night and all looking good.

Part No's for anyone stumbling over this thread in the future.
