    Hi All,

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section, i only have use of a very slow computer at the moment as i am out of the uk and it takes ages to search anything.
I am wanting to buy the correct vag com cable and software for my 57 plate S5 4.2 V8, the engine management light has come on and i want to see whats going on, the light came on a few months ago and the local audi dealer said it was catalitic converter efficeincy issue ? no work was carried out but the fault codes were cleared and the car has been fine until now when the light is back on again.
So if anyone could point me in the right direction of what cable and software i require i.e part / serial number and best place to get these it would be much appreciated.

    Thank

    Rob.

Check the Ross Tech site to see which cable is correct for you. The can be purchased through Gendan and also Nigel at vagcom.biz (user NHN on here). The software is free if you buy the cable from an authorised dealer but you need to download it from Ross Tech which would mean you need a decent upload speed. Price is around the £260/270 mark for the hex can cable.

if the engine management light is on, and you just want to check the code, there is no need to buy VCDS

A simple OBD reader will do this job, and they can be picked up for around £20
