I think the start of all this was the super sarcastic remark made a few days ago. This had my post referenced, so was aimed at me. If you wish to name call as per your last post, feel free, I am leaving it right here.

At the risk of muddying the waters rather than trying to pour oil on them, isn't the core issue the fact that we've all got different perceptions and expectations. I have always found the wipers to be over sensitive, coming on when not needed. Likewise I find OE halogens more than adequate whereas others upgrade their bulbs or swear by xenons and LEDs. We're just different.

It's also easy to interpret something differently to how it was intended, especially if you come from the opposing camp. I looked back at my own half serious comments further back and realised that if I had put a smiley at the end the cheekiness might have been conveyed better.

Come on guys. You've both contributed gems in other threads so let's not fall out.

I started this thread so I think that I should have the last word: I wish it would rain so that I can join in.

Hopefully the dust's settled by now, but I had a simple Eureka moment and I hope Audi is reading this.

It only takes a few spots of rain (over the sensor) to trigger the initial wipe, often when there's the briefest of rain spots. Wouldn't it be great if YOU decided when that first wipe was and then the auto system took over until, say, 5 mins of no activity! A sort of semi-automatic mode.

    DB probably wouldn't even notice...

I had a bug hit my windshield top and center today. It scared the heck out of me because I thought that it may trigger the wipers.

Yesterday we had a real rain day for the first time in a year so although it was the first time I really got to test the system, I was really impressed: they came on and changed frequency perfectly for a 41 mile drive in heavy rain and freeway splash. I never over-rode the system and it did exactly what I would have done if they were not automatic. I realize that some people think that they are a waste of time but I was very pleased. Maybe the sensitivity or sequence algorithms have been changed for the 14+?

Yesterday and today we didn't have rain, in what feels like the first time in a year!

I had problems with my auto wipers after having to get the windscreen replaced - no sensitivity and random operation. It turned out that when a cracked screen was replaced, they forgot to put enough of a gel-like substance into the sensor unit that makes contact with the screen. After that was done, the auto wipers returned to working faultlessly.
