I think this is a common fault, the warning lights for glow plugs, ESP and oil come on. The rev counter needle goes to zero while the car is still running and when you come to a stop the engine stalls. Warning message "low oil pressure-garage" comes up. Fault code P0726 speed sensor, range/performance. Car just turns over but will start after 10mins or so. Engine Management light stays on.
Cleared the fault with OBD2 and car runs fine for a couple of days then same issue, only this time warning message "low emissions-garage"
Some people say G28 crank sensor, others say still have same issue after changing it. Does anyone know what fault causes this failure so I can give my local mechanic a headstart.

Not sure that is a VAG specific P code, more rice cake than Bratkartoffeln.

Yes, a VCDS Autoscan would tell the Derv experts in here more. Here's a link to the locator for someone who'll do it for beer tokens. Lederhosen not compulsory

Am taking t ito the garage tomorrow, see if they can cure the fault. I had to clear the OBD2 fault code to drive it. Wouldn't be suprised if they cant find anything wrong. Will keep you posted and give a VAG code if present.

The garage couldn't do anything without a fault code. Told me to drive it until the fault comes back and then get it back to them. Most of my driving is out of town so means calling the breakdown recovery next time it happens

This is a garage I've gone to for 20 years, it's not a VW garage but they are good and honest. They ordered a crank sensor but contacted a VW main dealer mechanic. He said he wasn't convinced it was the sensor and if I brought it back with the fault still present he'd scan it with the VW tool and tell them what he thought it would be.
