Engine sounding loud

Hi

My audi a6 2.0 tdi 2006 is sounding louder compared to other same year diesel cars. Sounds more like a van. I know my injecotor no3 needs replacing but could this be the reason for a loudish engine?

Using 2 stroke oil or millers etc i have heared can reduce the engine sound. Any ideas and experiences?

It could be causing the issue, I would get it replaced and check for any fault codes on the engine, before masking the problem with additives. I would also get the oil pump balance shaft & pickup pipe check as this noise could be down to poor oil circulation around the engine. Have you also checked your oil level, as my A4 1.9TDI sounds more noisy when the oil level is low.

Iv checked for engine codes and theres no codes. Yes iv checked engine oil and the level is fine. So now whats left?

Forgot to mention. The car had its 1st timing belt changed at 75k and now the clocks on 134k. Could it possibly be signs for a new timing belt?

Have you tried with A/C on and off - my A/C pump makes a noise.

Hi, do you mean loud like an induction roar as though the air filter has been removed?
Mine (2007 2.0TDi) started doing it a couple of months ago, sounded like a Corsa with a Pipercross kit and dustbin tailpipe. I checked everything I could see but couldn't find anything amiss.
Took it to the local garage and left it with them.
They sorted it, the moveable vanes in the VNT turbo were sticking partially open so the turbo was only giving a set boost and also causing blowback. They connected a minivac to the vacuum unit and pumped it until the actuator rod could be seen moving freely through the whole range (about 12mm) and it's back to normal again.
They recommended that the turbo was removed and stripped to clean the VNT properly but that's a road I will go down if it keeps occurring. Meanwhile I've bought a minivac (ebay £27) so I can give it some exercise now and again.
Problem is caused by a build up of carbon due to lack of using the full turbo boost now and again - happens to a lot of TDis when used as shopping cars. When it gets bad enough it will trip in to limp mode.

Hi. Sorry for the late reply. No its not like a sporty loud noise, it actually sounds like a typical old deisel car or van. Dont know if its anything to do with the timing as now i can hear the belt slightly winging.

I would get the timing belt done anyway as it's nearly 70K miles old.

Could you record the noise on your phone and post it as a youtube vid or soundcloud upload ?
