I've been hearing a watery swishing sound from the front of the car when I first move it after a lot of rain and I wanted to check the plenum chamber out.

However, when I went to take the battery out yesterday I noticed there were three wires doing into it. As well as the positive and negative terminals, there was a wire in some flexi-piping coming from the right.

Can any one tell me what this wire is and how can I remove it without damaging it please?

Are you sure it's not the vent coming out to a L shaped connector?

Vent from the battery? I'd not thought of that. It disappears somewhere under the bonnet hinge. I might try pulling out the other end and see how I go from there. Cheers Hex.

Just pull it off from the battery. It's just a vent.

Also, I had loads of water in mine and found the bunged hole underneath. I didn't remove the battery, too much hastle. 3 years on and all fine.

Don't forget the other drain hole which is located below the brake servo (big black round metal part) You can just about squeeze your hand down and push a finger through the rubber grommet. Or carefully use a flexi bit of pipe etc. Use a torch for a better look.

Do not remove the rubber grommets as they stop any fumes from entering the cabin.

Thanks for your suggestions all. I had a go tonight when I was going to top the water up for the wipers. After pulling the covers off I noticed the chamber was full of water, however, I was unable to get the bloody battery out, where is it clipped??

If I can clean the holes out without removing the battery, I'll try that first. The light was pretty poor and my torch was broken when I looked tonight so I'll try again tomorrow. In the mean time, I'm going to do a bit of research and see where the bloody holes are.

C'mon Hagis, you're obviously the only one on this forum who doesn't know?

Just get your hands under the battery from the engine bay and feel around. You will come across it! Failiing that, get the water out asap by syphoning it out. I did that before I found the drain holes.

Also there is one under the power assistance servo, again some contortion will get get you there. Battery out is a last resort IMO.

    Cheers
    Marco

    fumes? cabin? how the....

I think you're looking at the wrong bungs matey.

the two bungs I cleaned out simply filled in a pair of drain holes, the only way the fumes are going are down and out?

Hagis - re the battery, the clamp is right at the front, tucked under a stupid pipe that insists on getting in your way, you'll find it though. getting the battery out of the bay is the funniest thing ever.
