Hi All, I'll try and give as much info as I can if it helps diagnose the problem. Basically, I have an 02 2.0ltr GTi 4 door, bought off eBay (not me, the missus as it's hers) and on getting home I noticed that the driver's side rear door wouldn't open and the door handle seemed a little floppy. I managed to get the interior door card off and yes the pull cable wasn't attached to the interior handle, easy I thought. A quick pull on the cable and the door opened, no problem. I tightened the cable at the exterior handle by pulling further up the ridges and cured that bit. However, on closing the door and refitting the interior trim, I pushed down the central locking pin on the top and felt some resistance, now the door won't open at all, no clunks from the deadlock on using the remote at all. May be related, when I took the door card off, the electric window mech was trashed, the cables wrapped around the motor etc and the glass had been propped up in the door with a piece of wood, yes, really. I read somewhere that the door lock gets it's power supply through the window mech, I have got a new mech to fit, but how will I open the door if it's not that? I also read that it involves cutting a hole in the inside of the door, and there's a bolt in the deadlock that when removed will free it up?
Any help is gratefully accepted, this is turning into a pig of a car, I need to get the door open soon as it is MOT time coming up.

    Thanks

    Hi,
If you google MK4 golf door not opening, there are answers there which have been posted on this forum. I don't know how to post a link that would take you there directly.
    Hope this helps.

    Marko.

Finally got the door open on Friday afternoon, I'll explain how as it might help others. With the door card and window mech off I gave the lock a thorough dousing in WD40, just in case it was just seized up, it's not going to hurt either way. After fitting the new window mech and connecting the wiring through to the lock, still nothing, so I tried the window and that didn't work either. Luckily when I bought the new mech from the breakers I got the loom included so I removed the old one from the B pillar and put the new one in. Still nothing on the window or lock. I know the old window motor worked even though the cables were broken so I wired that in to test and hey presto it span up. Turns out the "new" one from the breakers was a dud. What have I learnt? The lock does get it's power through the window motor, and don't assume that breaker's parts are working, I removed the window mech from the car myself, maybe dismantlers have to check parts before putting them on sale.
