Hi, I've just come back from holiday and was going to go for a few pints of milk @ 4am in the morning, I reversed the car off the driveway and bang a loud metallic sound, I dismissed it and thought it may be the brakes seized as can happen got 400yds down the road another bang and part of the spring shot out about 5" long.

I wanted to know what you guys think? do just replace the spring and move on ? the car currently has 70,000mls and has Dcc adaptive suspension.

couple of questions:

1)Is the suspension nearing the end of it's useful life?

2)do I just replace the spring and continue and hope the same does not happen again?

3)Replace all the springs for eibach pro and a little bit of drop or H&R springs 40mm drop and use Audi TT rear spring pad to get rid of the reverse rake that these springs have?

4)Fit coilovers as you get struts and springs included ant then it wont happen again and have the advantage of going a bit lower, I don't want it slammed I'm just looking for a little of the gap closed between the wheel and arch.

KW do a set of coilovers that work with the Dcc adaptive chassis but I don't want to pay that much for them and would fit some middle of the road ones not ebay specials lol but not thousands either, could I get the dcc disabled so no lights on the display?

I've also heard that lowering springs on stock dampers will ruin them although both manufactures say they are compatible.

So what's your honest opinions on which way to go, my local VW independent wants £240 for replacing coilovers or springs and 4 wheel alignment is this a good price?

Cheers for any advice my head is spinning at the minute with the options.

Regards
Mark
