    Hi fellow VWAF'rs!

Yesterday Zesty the A6 went for an MOT, she passed only after having the spare wheel fitted, no other advisories.

The offside wheel had worn to cords on the inside as wheel alignment / tracking must be out! the shame of it was the Conti still had 4mm left!

So whilst I was getting prices for new and part worn tyres I called around for wheel alignment so far I've rang 3 branches of the same company.

    Branch 1

Starting price £72.95 with a check first, then when I asked does this cover every possible eventually for alignment ie front/rear , toe/camber/caster (don't know currently what is adjustable) he proceeded to say worst case £100 to £120

    Branch 2

Starting price £40 with a check, if all tyres adjusted further £20

    Branch 3

Starting price £80 with a check, all wheels adjusted no differentiation if only fronts done and not rears

So what are fellow peeps of A6 quattro cars paying for hunter wheel alignment?

Should I be ringing the head office of the company in question to find out why such a difference in pricing? and perhaps what is real price?

Should I even be entertaining using this company?

    *** edit ***

I rang head office, they stated branches are not franchises but managers can run branch specials, here is extract of email with company official pricing Link:- Hunter.txt

Wow so your alignment must be way off. Do all branches do Camber/Caister/Toe adjustments, and do they all have the same equipment?

Personally (although I was tempted to get a half price hunter alignment done earlier in the year) I just have a basic alignement done at National for £15

    http://www.national.co.uk/special-of...alignment.aspx

All of my tyres have worn normally/evenly over 25k miles and if they were majorly out I'd see some anomolies....at that voucher price I can afford to get it done a couple of times a year...usually just after my winter/summer wheel changeover.

What type of mileage are you doing?

All 3 branches stated hunter machine, they all just said what can be adjusted would be done if required, I will try to see if can find data on what can be adjusted.

Only do about 10k miles a year, don't do any summer/winter tyre changeover.

I think the country roads have not been kind to car, first 2 years she was a townie/m-way car and never had an issue like this and I do monitor tyre wear but last year been so busy after the move to the sticks that haven't been checking plus wife drive her more.

I brought mine to an Audi dealer here in Ireland and it cost me 80 euros for the full alignment. When I originally booked it in they cancelled once because they had to get a guy over from Scotland to fix the machine's "radio frequency setup".
A few weeks later they were able to book the car in again. But it did take them over 4 hours to do it as they said it was "way out". I was waiting in their show room during this time.
Originally they said it would take about 45 minutes so that's why I waited.

Even when I got it back they showed me the print out and said it was correctly aligned but some of the numbers on the sheet were in red (meaning not set correctly). They said because it had taken over 4 hours to do and they got "hardship" doing it that they should really be charging more but they charged €80.

Before the alignment mine was wearing the insides off the tyres on all four corners but not evenly. Now it looks to be wearing the insides off all four corners evenly.

I probably wouldn't take Zesty to local Audi, as I know they take cars for wheel alignment to a local garage.

All you do is drop/pickup from Audi plus invoice from them but car is whipped around to tyre shop, they do the same with MOT's.

I was going to write this reply in the smallest text I could find, 'cos it seemed rather inappropriate to crow about it...

I paid £24 for a full Hunter on the allroad last year. That was at the local tyre place I've been going to for yonks, and it included some adjustments.

    Good, innit?

Local place did 4 wheel for £40 - first time the wheel was not clamped properly so it was a bit wonky. THey rectified straight away when I got back to the garage.
Audi Camberley quoted £400 inclusive of £30 per wheel that needs adjustment
Audi Epsom was around the £180 mark all in
