Hey fellow VWAF'rs! bit of a moan/vent really here ...

I feel like a gerbil on the wheel of insurance! you have to be on the wheel as you can't drive a car without it! you have to have it on your building as its a mortgage requirement! Now I wouldn't mind if it actually worked like the tins states!

I had two reasons to ring my property insurer today i) renewal ii) possible claim

As I queried renewal price (which was competitive IMO, but still wanted to squeeze them more!) the rep explained why the increase and I accepted it as valid, he did state yes you have never had claims etc but our policy is the best on the market as checked by defaqto. This lead into my second query, I asked are fences covered he happily replied yes! . He proceeded to ask how the damage to the fence occurred I stated the high level of wind a day or so ago, sorry storm/tempest, etc as cause for damage to fences means not covered! I felt and like and also as if told to .

Now not going into details but over the 20 plus years of paying car/building/contents insurance I've probably claimed once on two which really makes me feel really ripped off! On the flip side you think well I'm covered but are we/you really covered? or will they find another get out clause!

Yours faithfully still on the wheel of insurance ..
    Gup

so, phone them back up and tell them you came home from work to find your fence fallen over, no idea what happened , must have been kids.
on this subject, people have their home insured for its full market value. now, if it burnt down or simply disappeared, you would still have the land, so you actually only need enough insurance to rebuild you house. no more, no less. the land will always be there.

It maybe in the small print, perhaps mole damage is covered OR Giant Amazonian ants could devour it which came concealed in a shipment of Amazonian coca leaves I use in curry and they'd replaced it!

ah, call them up and ask if the have the recording because you think the person you spoke to may have tried to mis sell you something. they will then admit they don't record any conversations, then you can hit them with the missing fence ting.

The problem with the car insurance business model (for the punter like me, not for the insurance companies) is that you never actually retrieve any of the premium you pay even if you make a claim because they will increase your premium next year & take it back off you over the next few years based on your claim. And you lose your no claims bonus (what a marketing boon that little nugget is for them).

Of course, if you were unfortunate enough to write-off your car you would not get the full value of the car back because they only pay OMSP of the car when it was written off not the value of it when you insured it. Then they will tell you that they don't take the value of the car into consideration when calculating your premium.

Insurance epitomises the white collar crime wrapped up as a legalised industry.

What cheeses me off at times is how all the marketing is geared to make you perceive they will cover so much and more and then straight up their sleeve they have some caveat to get out!

Without going into too much detail I once claimed on home insurance for accidental damage to a TV. Firstly I got half the value I'd paid for the TV (it was 1yr old at claim), secondly I got vouchers for Comet which didn't have the TV I wanted, thirdly Comet went bust and the receivers wouldn't honour them as they were deemed as corporate gift vouchers. I then really couldn't be bothered to waste more time trying to get anything out of them or insurer, again defaqto 5 star policy.

They lull you into a false sense of security with wording like we replace like for like, old for new, etc ...

So thank you More Than ...

Post 1 is not about More Than but another big name Barclays/Allianz ..

You could say that someone hit your fence with a vehicle and drove off or a bigger boy did it and ran away
