    Hi guys,

I wrecked the clutch last week and need to install a new one. Question is, does the engine have to come out to do this job, or is it possible to leave the engine in?

The car is a 1999 Passat 1.9TDI (AFN) Syncro.

    Thanks

you can leave the engine in and take the box out, or just pull the engine after removing the bumper and lock carrier/radiator. both ways are fun, and choice depends on tools available/facilities. for instance, if you have a ramp then its easier to pull the gearbox out, but doing it on the floor its probably easier to pull the engine.
