No-one is going to do a job for a stranger for the calculated price of the fuel and a bit of pocket money. Not in the real world. Maybe for a mate, otherwise most people running a reliable enough car aren't going to lose 2 days of their life for that sort of money, certainly not from dahn sarf.

It would be more economical to use a single car breakdown truck transit size or similar.

Still will cost a fair bit for the ferry + you need trade insurance to carry a car on the bed. As mentioned above, it's not worth to do the job for peanuts- it does not work that way !

I'm sure everyone in here is agog to know that the car was picked up sucessfully from Moldrup, Denmark and returned to Sudbury on the back of a Vauxhall Movano (me neither!) The overall mileage was 1,384 and the overall Derv MPG was over 30mpg. Not bad for a transporter that'd done over 136,000 miles on that engine and clutch -- over 217,000 otherwise

Only downside is that the Movano is 7 metres long -- one metre more than an equivalent transit -- so attracts Stena's full freight rate of £674 return as against just £202 for a car. But driver does get a meal and shared cabin for that! Apparently many now go Dover/Calais crossing and drive around to avoid Stena's new "winter" fares

Seems all my life I've been surrounded by ne'er sayers trilling: "you can't do this", or "you can't do that". But I have

1961 Jaguar Mk IX, auto, 4.2L Daimler Sovereign engine, lots of spares, in need of TLC

Yes, with Daimler Sovereign 4.2L engine. Been standing for six years but in a covered shed. Owner never got around to the restoration, preferring to do current projects of an E-type, Rolls Royce (Mulliner Park Ward), and a Jensen Interceptor III. So cut losses and cleared the space along with a XJ-S

Have you seen the prices that XJ6 and -Ss now command restored? I'm sure it was only five years ago you could see them piled up in scrap yards. There's a place down in Eastbourne (XJ Restorations) that does only them. Booked up until January -- two door XJ6 100A1 restored commands £30,000 and up

Wonder which Passat will be being hunted down and restored in 20 years' time?
